The reorganization process and creditors meeting on the 6th April
As you know the Saab Automobile reorganization team is evaluating all parts of the business. Some services are being cancelled, some renegotiated and some will continue with no change at all. This period of reorganization is a golden opportunity for us all to cut back on any superfluous activity, reduce costs and move forward from a position of strength.
On the 6th April there will be a creditors meeting which will be administered by the court of Vänersborg. This meeting will act as a ‘check-point’ for the court to confirm that reorganization plans are moving forward as expected. Saab Automobile’s Managing Director, Jan Åke Jonsson will be giving a business update and Guy Lofalk, who is Saab’s court-appointed reorganization Lawyer, will be reporting on the process. At this meeting there will also be an opportunity for registered creditors to ask questions. Given that this meeting is in public, it is likely to generate media coverage.
The mood of the media
There continues to be wild debate over potential investors with mention of Chinese automotive companies, Swedish investors groups, a member of the Dubai ruling family and even mergers with other Automotive companies. Serious discussions with investors are taking place and when we have something concrete to report we will.
Product coverage
Off the back of the recent 9-3X coverage we have also seen increased media interest in the New 9-5 and 9-4X.
Following the artist’s impressions of the New 9-5 that were first published in Auto Motor and Sport there are now some high resolution ‘spy shots’ in circulation that show a camouflaged New 9-5 testing in Northern Sweden (www.worldcarfans.com). A 9-4 X has also been pictured on public roads in Belgium during ‘engine calibration’ (www.moniteurautomobile.be). The fact that these images are now appearing across the web helps to prove that Saab is moving ahead with plans to launch three new cars in the next 18 months.
What’s going on in the political arena?
Since the last News Update, Mona Sahlin, the leader of Sweden’s main opposition party, visited the Trollhättan region. She met with Jan Åke Jonsson, union leaders, employees and also with local politicians. She continues her calls for the Government to provide loan guarantees for Saab.
The automotive industry is still firmly on the Swedish political agenda and last week there was a televised debate in the Swedish parliament. Constructive and open discussions continue with the Government and they are being regularly updated on our progress.
Jan Åke briefs all Swedish employees
Today Jan Åke Jonsson finished briefing the majority of Saab Automobile’s Swedish employees. In his face to face meetings he talked at length about the reorganization process, the business plan and the road ahead for Saab as an independent entity. Jan Åke said: “It is important to keep everyone informed and it is at times like these that management must be most visible.”
